FireWire, also known as IEEE 1394 is a high-speed interface made by Apple Inc. It is similar to that of the USB. It is a common connector for camcorders, iPods, and hard drives.
There are two flavors of FireWire, 400 and 800. Both are named after their theoretical throughput of the ports in Mb/s (Megabits per second).
